This is my review of Dr. Pepper made with real cane sugar—about as close to the original taste as you’re going to get. Now, I like Dr. Pepper, but I always drink it out of the version in the plastic bottle (made with corn syrup instead). So this review will be for the cane sugar version in the classic glass bottle.
First off, it’s a twist cap, like most are nowadays. Upon opening the bottle, I get that classic Dr. Pepper smell emanating from the opening.
The first sip makes it absolutely clear that it’s Dr. Pepper—like I had any doubt—but, in fact, there is a noticeable difference. It is not as sweet as the corn syrup version, and in this case, that works out positively. It’s still a sweet soft drink, but the 23 flavors stand out much more than the sweetness. It’s very enjoyable, making it very refreshing.
Honestly, I have no clue what any of the 23 flavors are, but there has to be some mint in this. You know the little minty afternote you get in most root beers? That’s what I am getting here. I am a huge fan of old-fashioned root beers, and this seems kind of like a relative to those—kind of like a cousin.
All in all, I like this one better than the corn syrup version.
