Today, I’m revisiting one of my favorite sodas: Stewart’s Black Cherry Wishniak. I’ve tried this before, so it’s about time to actually give it a second try and talk about what I think of it.
When I pop the top, a faint hint of cherry cough syrup greets my nostrils. Now before you frown at that, it isn’t such a bad thing, really. The smell alludes to a robust cherry flavor, but thank God it doesn’t taste anything like cough syrup.
That first sip was surprisingly bold in its Black Cherry flavoring. In a genre where other cherry sodas always seem to have that creamy undertone too, Stewart’s exhibited extra levels of complexity and smoothness. It’s almost enjoyable—a dessert in a bottle.
As I take further sips of my soda, my eyes close and I cannot help but feel like I’m sitting in a ’57 Chevy BelAir at some classic drive-in theater. There is just something about this soda that throws me back into a time where a soda and a movie under the stars were all you needed for a great night. This beverage would go perfectly with a scoop of vanilla ice cream to make a float. Definitely something I’ll have to try.
This one was pretty good overall, to be honest. Stewart’s Black Cherry Wishniak is a unique, creamy cherry flavor that is both nostalgic and pleasing. If you like cherry sodas, or just want to try something a little different, give it a whirl.
